Southern Barbecue Baked Beans
A classic Southern barbecue side dish featuring tender navy beans smothered in a flavorful barbecue sauce, creating a sweet and savory baked beans dish with a hint of smokiness.
Ingredients:
- 4 cans 15 oz each of navy beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled optional
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350F 175C
In a large bowl, combine the drained navy beans, barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, apple cider vinegar, chopped onion, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper
Mix well to ensure the beans are coated evenly
Transfer the bean mixture to a baking dish and spread it evenly
If desired, sprinkle the cooked and crumbled bacon on top of the bean mixture
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the beans are bubbly and the top is caramelized
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving
Garnish with additional bacon, if desired, and serve warm
