Kaas en Bacon Gereg



There is a delicious South African dish called Kaas en Bacon Gereg that is a creamy macaroni casserole with lots of cheese and bacon. This is the best comfort food ever!

Ingredients:

  • 200g bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 250g macaroni
  • 2 cups grated cheese cheddar or Gouda
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions:

Preheat your air fryer to 350F 180C

In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon until crispy

Remove excess fat and set aside

In the same skillet, saut the finely chopped onion and minced garlic until they become translucent

Cook macaroni according to package instructions, drain, and set aside

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, paprika, nutmeg, salt, and pepper

Add the cooked macaroni, grated cheese, and sauted onion and garlic to the egg mixture

Mix everything thoroughly

Grease an oven-safe dish that fits in your air fryer basket with a bit of cooking spray

Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture into the greased dish and sprinkle the cooked bacon on top

Place the dish in the preheated air fryer and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dish is heated through

Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot
